VAC - What new ideas or thinking have emerged?

  1. From our discussions we have decided that technology needs to play a role in students' lives. From our standpoint, if seems obvious that technology should be reflected in curriculum when its obviously a large part of their lives. Integration in current curriculum (like literacy) is something we discussed as important.

  2. Here's an interesting book/read regarding technology: http://www.amazon.com/Dumbest-Generation-Stupefies-Americans-Jeopardizes/dp/1585426393/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1237297972&sr=8-1

  3. Advisor Guided Study: the person teachers can go to in order to connect the student to their classroom. Someone who follows them through 11th and 12th grade. Their 12th grade study will be different: more flexible to reflect a senior year program. But it will allow for someone to check in, offer guidance, give important papers to, etc. Teachers involved must buy in to concept. Max 25 students to a teacher, preferred 20.

12th grade: all students should have requirements and suggestions that include: college options, internships, early graduation, 5th year, virtual classes, SMCC/USM/MECA in SPHS, virtual classes, virtual colleges, etc.

Professional Development: teachers getting certified to teach college courses. Technology literacy integration 9-12th.

Eliminate Homebase: Replace with open campus. Once a week, every day, every other day, etc. 25 minutes where the school is open and teachers are in their rooms waiting to help students who need it. A check in period.
